All Police Jury Departments Closed for Labor Day
Waste Management services will not be affected
All Calcasieu Parish Police Jury departments will be closed Monday, Sept. 2, for Labor Day. Offices will reopen on Tuesday, Sept. 3.
Garbage and trash pickup will run as normally scheduled for Waste Management customers.
The Residential Solid Waste Convenience Centers in Lake Charles and Sulphur will be closed Labor Day and will reopen on Thursday, Sept. 5. A reminder that regular hours for both sites are 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. Thursday through Monday. They are closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
Labor Day, an annual holiday that pays tribute to the contributions and achievements of American workers, grew out of the the labor movement against unsafe working conditions during the Industrial Revolution in the late 19th century. It officially became a federal holiday in 1894, when President Grover Cleveland signed it into law.
Labor Day weekend also symbolizes the end of summer for many Americans, and is celebrated with parties, street parades and athletic events.
