American Job Center Seeking Applicants for Certified Lineman Program

Classes begin Dec. 4 in Crowley

Post Date:10/17/2019

Spots are still open for area residents who want to enroll in the Certified Power Lineman Training Program at South Louisiana Community College’s Acadian Campus in Crowley, LA.

Classes begin Dec. 4 and there are still several spots available for eligible residents of Region V (covering Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, Jeff Davis and Vernon parishes). Tuition assistance may be available to those residents who qualify through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Program.

This short-term Certified Power Lineman Training Program will last between 16-to-25 weeks, depending on if the student currently holds a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Graduates of the program will earn a National Center for Construction Education & Research (NCCER) certification, be qualified for employment as a line helper and receive job placement assistance.

“We are excited to be collaborating with the Louisiana Workforce Development Board #40 - Lafayette Region in this endeavor,” said Stephanie Seemion, Director of the Louisiana Workforce Development Board #51 in Lake Charles. “This will allow us to have a multi-regional customized training contract that will enable us to serve several parishes around the state - and not be confined to just our respective parishes. Being able to serve multiple parishes increases the employers’ access to qualified applicants, which will, in turn, meet the employers’ needs.”

To qualify for enrollment in this course, applicants must pass drug and background checks, have a valid driver’s license and be comfortable working at heights. There are also eligibility requirements for tuition assistance.

This program is sponsored by the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury, in conjunction with the Workforce Development Board and the Louisiana Workforce Commission. It is funded by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014 (WIOA) and is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Program. Auxiliary aids and services are available upon request to individuals with disabilities and for people with limited English proficiency.
